Arne Slot chanted Jurgen Klopp's name after leading Liverpool to the Premier League title on Sunday - returning the favour after his welcome chant last year.

Klopp had sung the name of his successor after his final game in charge at Anfield at the end of last season, to the lyrics of 'Arne Slot, la la la la la la'.

After his Reds side thrashed Tottenham 5-1 to win the league, Slot took the opportunity to pay his own tribute to Klopp, who also lifted the top-flight trophy on Merseyside.

Changing the lyrics slightly to include Klopp's name instead, Slot led the whole of the stadium in the sing-along before being sprayed with champagne.

The victory secured the club a record-equalling 20th league title, moving them level with Manchester United, and capped off a superb debut season for Slot.

There had been question marks over whether he would be able to replicate the success Klopp brought during his spell at the helm between 2015 and 2024, but the German made sure to use his farewell speech to wish Slot luck in the role.

Slot was then soaked in champagne by his players on the pitch at a jubilant Anfield







Clearly, his words were appreciated and Slot repeated the classy gesture.

'The only thing I can do now is to show my appreciation to Jurgen, so here we go,' he said, before starting the chant to the tune of Live is Life by Austrian band, Opus.

Shortly after replacing Klopp, Slot admitted the impromptu rendition of the tune was being sung by people when they passed by his house in the Netherlands.

'Just after it happened I got a lot of text messages from people who saw this and who were sending it to me,' he told the club website in his first interview. 

'Yeah, I think this is probably one of the reasons why he is so popular over here, because of course he won the trophies but to do this for your successor.

'I don't think it has ever happened before that the fans, let alone the former manager, are singing your name before you have even arrived.

'So, I think this says the most about him and I am hoping, hoping, that the fans will sing in the upcoming season again - maybe not my name but more for the players. Sometimes when I am in Zwolle now people pass my house and are singing this song!

'So, it did have an impact already!'

Slot went on to express his pride after his side put Tottenham to the sword.

'It was clear we couldn't lose this game,' he told Sky Sports. 'Everyone on the bus said there's no way we're going to lose this game. They always find a way to win.

'Incredibly proud, not only of the players but the people standing here, sport directors, my staff members, we should give them a big round of applause. Let's forget it's the second in 35 years, it's the second in five years.'
